Our garments are characterize by being made in our own workshop according to individual designs – from concept to final product, everything happens under one roof! Our products are custom-made unique pieces that are produce under fair conditions. For our clothing and accessories, we prefer to use organic fabrics. It is a pleasure for us to experience the creative process from the pure idea to the actual “bringing-into-the-world” and to share our works with others. Each time anew, experiencing the transformation of a roll of fabric into a covering for a body or the lining of a room gives us energy. How important is the topic of sustainability in your workshop? For us, sustainability means something is durable and ideally can be produce without environmental impact and can be seamlessly return to the natural cycle. We place great importance on the origin of the materials we use and ensure that we can trace them back. We place great importance on preferring materials that are produce as environmentally friendly as possible. Handmade Textiles In Sustainable. Due to the Corona situation, you are currently primarily producing face masks that are fair and organic what makes these masks a “green” alternative? Yes. We have decided to use our skills to make makeshift masks in this extraordinary situation. This situation shows us how vulnerable we are as humans, how thin our network of relationships is, and how fragile our system is. We want to offer people a snug, fair, organic, value-added version of a mouth and nose covering in the usual naht.und.art style.

Our daily activities include planning and implementation in various areas, order processing, curtain assembly, and maintenance of our machines and website. Many days we spend in peace, focused on sewing, implementing ideas, and executing sewing tasks. What has changed now? Everything has accelerated since we started making makeshift masks in our workshop. The demand far exceeds our wildest expectations, and we are very please with the positive response.

We have spent practically all our time in the sewing workshop in the past few weeks, fulfilling orders, communicating with customers, and sewing endlessly. While orders in other areas have been almost nonexistent “since Corona,” the decision to produce masks has enabled us to keep our business running. We have numerous ideas and plans for the future of naht.und.art. In which price range do your clothing items fall.

In my estimation, our clothing items are priced in the average range. The price of most textiles has indeed been completely disproportionate for years. This has the consequence that people occasionally without intending to – compare the prices of handcrafted clothing produced in Germany or other wealthy countries with those of mass-produced items, where people are often exploited under degrading conditions.

When you compare these prices, which are not comparable whether intentionally or not then our prices might seem high. However, if you consider that a person might work ten hours on a garment with intricate appliqué and that material costs as well as proportional operating costs need to be added how high can the price then be? What is the hourly wage for everyone? What is considered fair? We want to set our prices so that as many people as possible can afford our pieces.
